that night was the -- astonishing walking away or effort to walk away by governor romney of some of the most -- some of the key proposals he's been making for 18 straight months. you know, on the central issue of taxes, he's been saying every day for 18 months that he wants a 20% cut in marginal tax rates and he'll figure out a way that won't increase the deficit. well there's only one way to make that happen, that is to raise the tax burden on middle income americans. the number on his tax cut is $5 trillion. because he's talking about a 20% cut in marginal rates, eliminating the alternative minimum tax, estate tax and other deductions, $480 billion a year, $5 trillion over ten years, that's the number. then he says, you know, every day for the last 18 months, i've been talking about repealing every aspect of obama care, but actually i didn't mean it. well it's too late for that. if you repeal obama care across the board, that means that kids can no longer stay on their parents' coverage through age 26, it means that we can go back to a system of denying coverage for preexisting conditions,

for governor romney was likability. i do not think he has -- i do not think he has had a lot of time to show likability. what he did last night was a single-minded focus on what his strength is and what the concern of the country is. i think he did his job. for all of us in this room who are probably not undecided, i think the campaign kickoff, i do not know, 2009. for a lot of us who are consumers of news and followers of politics, the convention's probably start it. this is the campaign. for the undecided voters in ohio and other places, and i know it is weird to state with all of the ads they are watching. let me back it up. there are a lot of ads that are playing. it does not mean everybody is watching them all of the time. for the average person, i think the campaign started last night. we have a long time left to go still. what mitt romney -- mitt romney did what he had to do. he made this a much more competitive general election. i think president obama, i do not think he did as badly as the pundits are saying this morning. i think, the next debate, he will probably have a different d

krauthammer is giving his analysis they got to see governor romney but wednesday offering a different view of him. >> romney had the highest negatives at this stage of the campaign in any challenger in three decades. they work only up to until they collide with reality. reality is a debate where you see the real guy for the first time and you get this remarkable reaction in the cbs poll 56 percent of respondents said their opinion of romney had risen. their opinion of romney had been that he is a rapacious capitalist gecko that cares for nobody except himself and money. they see a reasonable guy tough and respectful and they realize all of the ads they have seen are false. the point that you brought up where you said it was the best line romney had about he's the guy who wants to raise taxes on the middle class and reduce taxes on the rich, romney took the beginning of that debate and attacked each of the points and demolished them. all of that came from negative advertising. i think what he did last night is he dissolved $150 million of negative ads and turned themmed to dust. >>> the can
